Get 'Em Eating Healthy

When you mention eating healthy kids may roll their eyes, make a face or groan. But turning some of their favorite foods into healthy fare isn't that hard to do.

Prevent Objections
To avoid objections enlist your child's help at the grocery store. Let him hold your grocery list. Ask would you like bananas or pears? Ask what flavor of yogurt he wants peach or strawberry and which vegetable: green peas or green beans? Make sure different nutritional foods are on hand. This practice educates your child about healthy food choices and gives him some control of what he eats, which may make them more likely to eat it.

Make It Fun
Try making mealtime a
happy event. Have a picnic in the den. Use fun plates with animals, robots or try face plates to get your toddler more excited about the healthy foods. Use cookie or cheese cutters to create fun shapes with food such as fruits, sandwiches, and healthy cookies.

Fruit and Vegetable Juices
Juices that contain all fruit are best. Avoid fruit punches. Too much processed fruit juice makes your toddler's calorie intake high, with obvious negative outcomes. Six ounces of fruit juice is the daily
maximum. Vegetable juice is also another healthy choice to be considered. Many fresh vegetable juices are packed with vitamins and antioxidants, making it the perfect juice snack for children.

Pasta
Kids usually like spaghetti. It’s messy and can get on everything. An item that I had never heard of until recently is Konjaku Noodles. I tried them mainly because they’re a surprisingly healthy pasta noodle substitution. They’re low in carb, calorie free, gluten free, and are full of fiber. They don’t taste exactly like the traditional noodles we’re used to because they’re made differently, but they have certainly grown on me. Changing the type of noodle won’t help with the mess, though!

Veggies
How do you stop your kids from retreating when they face vegetables? Try broccoli, carrots or celery served with a dip. Their sensitive taste buds will react better to veggies when they are flavored with a low-fat dressing. Try steaming some broccoli and stir it with two or three tablespoons of orange juice, one tablespoon olive oil, and some salt and pepper. You can arrange the veggie on the plate with some mandarin orange slices.

These fun tips should encourage and are intended to get your kids to eat healthier with a smile. They could also be great tips for some adults who may have wanted to change their eating habits, but are overwhelmed by all the possibilities. These are great starting points for branching out from. Some recipes were even pulled from cancer treatment facilities’ diet plans created by nurses. Patients enjoyed these changes and found the foods to be a better alternative to traditional food served when going through treatments for
Pericardial Mesothelioma.

word{less} wednesday

It's amazing how we haven't really had real winter weather this season. The Bay Area experienced beautiful weather over the weekend. The sun was out and I remember not even needing a jacket. It was my godson's 7th birthday party last Saturday and the weather was just perfect for a very Star Wars party.

Little man all ready to party.

harajuku mini

Have you seen this super cute commercial yet?

Over the summer, I talked about Gwen Stefani launching a babies and kids collection at Target in this post. Her Harajuku Mini line has officially been launched at Target stores and it's just in time for Christmas.

The blazer is too cute for words. It's a definite must-have for my little man.

a thin line between love and hate?

I was doing my daily celebrity gossip update on US Magazine and I came across this article that quickly got my attention.

Julie Bowen: I "Love and Hate" My Kids

I can't believe she just said that word in the same sentence with kids. I've always believed that hate was such a strong word and even when I felt so unbelievably angry towards someone, it was always easier to just say a few curse words instead. Believe me, I'm not perfect. I have said it in the heat of the moment at times and I've always regretted it afterwards. There are so many things that I could say I hate and wouldn't feel bad about it...

I hate rainy days.
I hate when the toilet seat is up.
I hate the taste of bitter melon.
I hate visits with the dentist.
I hate visits with the gynecologist.
I hate having to go to the DMV.
I hate when they don't have my size in a pair of shoes I've been dying to have!

Simple, petty things like that. But to say I hate someone, let alone my kids? I couldn't even imagine it. Parenting is never easy and it sure as hell isn't perfect. My son drives me crazy at times, but I don't think there's any excuse to use that word and associate it with kids.

They say there is a thin line between love and hate, but with kids I don't think that falls true at all.

I wonder what Julie Bowen's kids feel about her saying that. If she were my mom, I'd be so hurt.

gotta love fashion

Gwen Stefani is one of my favorite fashion icons. She already has two fashion lines out called L.A.M.B and Harajuku Lovers, which both consist of women's clothing, accessories, and perfume. Her creative sense of style has always been amazing to me. Not to mention, her handsome little boys are always dressed just as fashionably as her and are known as some of the best-dressed celebrity kids in Hollywood.

You can imagine how excited I was to find out that she will be collaborating with Target on a budget-friendly line of clothing and accessories for babies and kids. The fashion line, which will be called Harajuku Mini, will hit Target stores in November of this year and online stores in January of next year. The best part- it will be all be priced at less than $29.99! What mommy doesn't love good affordable fashion? I'm already counting down the days...
