childhood memories

Have you ever come across a picture or object and it reminded you of something or someone? And then that thought turned into a flood of memories that took you back 5, 10, 15 years? This happened to me yesterday.

Believe it or not, this is the picture that started it all.

I was instantly reminded of my little brother, who in fact isn't "little" anymore. It was this Hulkster ice cream that always satisfied his sweet cravings. It was this Hulkster ice cream that was always on his mind when the ice cream truck came rolling through our neighborhood.

After texting him a picture of this and saying, "This reminds me of you" it was then that I started remembering our {brother, sister, and me} childhood days.

The days when we'd play outside all day...
When we'd wake up in the morning and watch cartoons together...
When we'd go through our parents coin collection to gather enough money for the ice cream man...
When we learned how to rollerblade together...
When we'd tell ghost stories in our basement...
When we'd sit around eating lunch together...
When we'd play Super Mario Bros. until the wee hours of the morning...
When we'd run through the sprinklers during summertime...
When we all slept in the same room together, not really trying to go to sleep, but just laughing hysterically till our parents had to come tell us to be quiet...
When we'd make funny home videos...
When we'd take bubble baths together...
When our lives were so carefree and innocent...
When it wasn't so hard just to spend a minute together.

I miss all of this. My siblings and I are all adults now and we don't live in the house where we built all these childhood memories anymore. It's very bittersweet, as all good things must come to an end, right? Now that we don't live under the same roof, it's harder for us to gather around and have breakfast or watch movies together. Life just happens so fast...I keep thinking "When did all that pass us by?"

  8. I have the same reaction whenever I hear Jermaine Jacksons "Do What You Do." It totally reminds me of staying up until 2 in the morning watching MTV videos and seeing the same ones over and over. Great post - thanks for the memories.
