a trip to the library

I would love to make it a routine to make trips to the library as often as we can. My dad enjoyed taking us to the library when my siblings and I were younger. It's one of my most fond memories with him. Anytime we went to the library, we would pick out stacks of books and movies to watch at home. It was a fun experience so it'd be a wonderful thing to see my son enjoy and appreciate the library just like we did.

A few days ago, I took my son on his first trip to the library. I was a little worried before heading there that he'd be hyper and running around, as this is his usual behavior. Luckily, he did an awesome job! I kept whispering to him so he would know that we had to stay quiet. Although he didn't whisper, he still kept his voice to a minimum.

He certainly enjoyed his time there. From the moment we walked in, I could see the excitement on his face. We were in a new place, so of course he was in awe of everything around him. We headed to the children's area and he didn't hesitate to pick out his first set of library books...

I Love Trucks by Philemon Sturges
I'm A Truck Driver by Jonathan London
Goodnight Moon ABC by Margaret Wise Brown
Little Rabbit's First Number Book by Alan Baker
Clifford The Champion by Norman Bridwell

{Can you tell he loves TRUCKS?}

  1. Oh! This is such a fun idea! I have a 7 month old and am always thinking of ways that would somehow get him into books. I'm sure all the great selections overwhelmed him and made it so much fun for him as well!

    Thank you so much for sharing this. And thank you for being part of our Meaningful Monday hop!

  3. WOW! I'm impressed and jealous! I took my 2 youngest to the library a few months back and it didn't go quite as well! They love books but we are better off owning them! We have tons of them! My 4 year old just does NOT have an inside voice! That's awesome! Glad I found you through our Meaningful Monday hop! Keep up the good work here!

  4. I haven't been to the library in ages! Since university I think. I can't wait to take my kids there. I loved it when I was younger.

  5. We love the library! I started taking my little guy when he was probably 6 weeks old (he sleeping in his stroller/carrier while I read)! Now he's an active 17 month old who runs around knocking books of shelves and ripping pages out :( I'm struggling to keep him interested in reading, but I know there will be a time! Until then, I just keep reading to him while he does his thing!

  7. My kids LOVED going to the library, now that they have to go because of school - not so much. It's wonderful that you are taking him and teaching him a love of reading. Visiting you from the VB Monday hop. Have a great evening.

  8. My mom used to take us to the library as kids too. Also have fond memories. Can't wait until my little one is old enough for that.
